Welcome to the Hudin Family Tree Project. The main purpose of this website is to connect Hudins and other families. This system not only displays the family tree online, but also allows people that are new to the site to become part of it. So, if you're visiting for the first time and not included, please submit yourself and others, then connect everyone you can. Once your addition is approved by the administrator, it will appear online as well. If you have any questions or problems, please do not hesitate to contact the site administrator.
So, what is the status of the current family tree? Well, Michael Hudin (who built this site) has been able to definitively trace his family back to a small area in mid-northern Croatia called, Sveta Jana. His family was living there as early as 1850 and possibly further. While this is a very beautiful area, it is about 100km away from where the main group of Hudins are from (including those in Slovenia and Austria) in or near another small village called, Višnjica. The link has not been fully established between these two places. But as the story goes there was a shortage of land and brides up north, so many Hudin men left Višnjica for other areas of Croatia and that's how they may have ended up in Sveta Jana.
There is of course the bigger question of what are the origins of the Hudins? There are two theories on Hudin migration. The first theory is that two separate groups of Hudins left an area that is now in the west of the Ukraine. One group went directly west and ended up in Croatia with other Slavs. The other group headed north, with some staying in Sweden and others continuing to France.
The second migration theory is that Hudins were originally a French people. These Hudins coming from France stopped in Croatia when they were going to or returning from the Crusades. This doesn't explain the link to Sweden, but there is definitely some merit to it with one or two family stories talking about Hudins who fought against the Turks.
As with any history, this is a work in progress and if you have anymore information, please send it in.
