He, his brother, and their oldest sister Dragica received the last name of their mother despite the fact that the last name of their father was Hudin. This was due to their mother, Amalija (Ljubica) Kapetanić being a widow, having 4 children with her late husband Rumenjak. She would have lost the pension she received as a window if she married Radoslav. So the children, Dragica, Mihovil and Davor, received their mother's maiden name, Kapetanić.
  Davor worked at the Institute for Literature and Theater in Zagreb, as a scientific advisor. He has been a Doctor of Slavic Studies since 1972. He has lectured at the Lomonosov University in Moscow (USSR), The Kings University in Stockholm (Sweden), in Praha (CSSR), and Warsaw (Poland). From 1973 to his retirement, he was Professor and Chairman at the University of Washington, Seattle.
  He is also a member of the Croatian Accademy of Science and Art (HAZU).
